Dance (AQA)

Entry Requirements:

Dance GCSE grade B and English Language GCSE grade C.

This course is for someone who  enjoys all aspects of dance; choreography, performing, watching and analysing professional companies as well  as each other. You will gain a deeper understanding  about  your body and  how it  moves through  the  theoretical delivery of  Anatomy  and  Physiology in  Dance.    You will  be  required to dance as a soloist and as part of a group  for the practical examination.  It is  essential that you are motivated and committed and willing to give extra time for practical  rehearsal.

Course Content and Assessment:

AS - 1 Year Course

Component 1 - 50% practical component that assess both performance and choreography

Pupils will:

Choreograph a solo dance based on a choice of four questions.

Perform a solo that is linked to a specific practitioner within an area of study.

Perform in a duet/ trio.

Component 2 - 50% critical engagement - Written paper (2 hours)

 

Pupils will be assessed on the knowledge and understanding of two set works.

Section A is short answer questions, section B short answer questions based on the area of study and section C is two essay questions based on both areas of study.

 

A Level - 2 year Course

Component 1 - 50% practical component that assess both performance and choreography

Pupils will:

Choreograph a group dance based on a choice of four questions.

Perform a solo that is linked to a specific practitioner within an area of study.

Perform a group dance in a quartet.

Component 2 - 50% critical engagement - Written paper (2 hours 30 minutes) 

Pupils will be assessed on the knowledge and understanding of two set works.

Section A is short answer questions and section B is two essay questions.

 

Career Options:

This subject is  relevant  for anyone who  has a passion for dance  and a desire to study dance further  at University or a professional  establishment.  It also compliments any Theatre  Studies  or  Performing  Arts  course.    It  can  lead  to  a  variety of  careers including   Professional    Dancer,   Dance   Teacher,   Community   Dance   Work   or Choreographer.
