Modern Foreign Languages

The MFL Department is a dynamic team dedicated to creating and delivering high quality lessons. The languages taught at Gable Hall School are French and German. Our curriculum offers the opportunity to inspire our pupils’ minds with new ideas and insights into different cultures. As a department, we are passionate about our subjects, sharing best practice  and challenging ourselves and our pupils  further at every opportunity. Our curriculum is also designed to equip pupils with all of the skills they will need to both succeed at GCSE, A Level and beyond.

Curriculum

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3, two languages are on offer: French and German. Our aim is to show our pupils how important languages are and we are dedicated to providing the opportunity for our pupils to enjoy learning languages and to develop the skills needed to communicate with others. We will develop their awareness and understanding of the culture and identity of other countries.  Our results are outstanding year after year, and pupils then have the opportunity to learn a new language at KS4.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4, two languages are on offer: French and German. The aim of studying a modern language at GCSE level is to broaden our pupils’ horizons and encourage them to step beyond familiar cultural boundaries and develop new ways of seeing the world. Through studying a GCSE in a modern language, students should develop their ability and desire to communicate confidently and coherently with native speakers in speech and writing.
